Explore and enjoy a day tour by swimming the cenotes at a Shared Tour departing from Merida.

Cenotes are one of the most breathtaking natural wonders of the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. These stunning sinkholes, filled with fresh water, have a fascinating history that dates back millions of years. There are over 6,000 cenotes in the Yucatan Peninsula, each with its own unique beauty and legends.

For the ancient Maya civilization, cenotes were considered portals to the underworld (Xibalba) and sacred sources of life. They depended on cenotes for fresh water, rituals and even human sacrifices to their Gods. Some cenotes still contain artifacts and human remains, evidence of these ancient ceremonies.

Cenotes are more than just beautiful swimming spots, they are a living history of the Earth, the Maya civilization and the power of nature. Visiting a cenote is like stepping into another world, full of mystery, adventure and beauty.
